SEMIDAWI: Ambos a la Vez

For fifteen years, Sergio Dawi and Semilla Bucciarelli were part of the acclaimed local band, Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota. Today, they are back on stage; but this time as a duo. 

 

Ambos a la Vez is a show that symbolizes the synthesis of their career as a musician and plastic artist respectively. 

 

Mixing digital technology, samplers, loops and projections; the artists became one unique force; where Bucciarelli’s colorful and singular lines, blended with the melodies of Dawi’s saxophone world and processor, create an original setting, transforming each night in a new and amazing adventure.

Sergio DAWI

Sergio Dawi is an Argentinian musician of recognized trajectory. He was the saxophonist and keyboardist of the acclaimed local band Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota for forteen years. 

In 1985, Sergio Co-founded the mythical duo of scenic music Dosaxos2, whose avant-garde proposal left a mark in the nineties; and with the band Dawi y los Estrellados, he edited two albums. 

As a soloist, Sergio created the "VideoSaxMachine¨ spectacle. He has composed soundtracks and participated as a guest on various musical projects.

 

TRAINING

Although considered a self- taught person, during his early years, Sergio Dawi was trained at the Musicum Music College of Buenos Aires. His teachers were Antonio Yepes and Guillermo Greatser, among others.

As a teenager he studied piano and musical harmony with Violeta H. Gainza and flute with Judith Akoshky.

He continued his education in Spain, where he lived for nine year, at the  L'Aula dels Musics. He also took a music workshop in Barcelona, specializing in jazz saxophone.

 

TRAJECTORY

During his stay in Europe he worked as a musician at diverse popular music groups.

 

Dosaxos2

In 1985, He returned to Argentina, and together with Damian Nisenson, co-funded the company of scenic music Dosaxos2. In their shows they included theatrical performances, film screenings circus acts and explored different sound combinations.

In 1987, the duo took part of the opening night of the Parakultural Center, which was the main center of artistic expression during the late 80´s and early 90´s, that developed during the end of the dictatorship. It was in the course of those years that they were able to empower their concept of ¨scenic music”.

In 1998 they presented the show “Bazar Limbus” in several cultural centers and theatres.

In the year 2000 they created “Kachivachetur”, a show that was on for two years at the IMPA cultural center.

Dosaxos2 was also invited to perform at the Payró´s theatre 50 years celebration.

The same year, the duo made a special for Channel A (an art TV channel). This event coincided with the duo's participation in the International Theatre Festival of Buenos Aires; period that recounted In Jorge Dubatti’s book, “El Teatro Argentino”.

In 2003 they create "In & Out", a show with a futuristic vision of human nature, that dealt with issues related to cloning, among others.

"In & Out" was presented at the Recoleta Cultural Center; where they shared stage with other renowned artists as Fernando Kabusacki, Sami Abadi, Gerardo Rotblatt (Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Cienfuegos), Juancho Farías Gómez, Sonnenstrahl, Semilla Bucciarelli, Ruger Blavia (Fura dels Baus), Sergio Bulgakov, Pablo Dawidowicz, Marcelo García, José Balé, Douglas Felis, Nora Sarmoria.

 

Patricio Rey y los Redonditos de Ricota

In 1987 Sergio Dawi was invited to join the rock band Patricio Rey y los Redonditos de Ricota as the saxophonist and keyboardist; where he recorded eight albums  (“Un baión para el ojo idiota", 1988; "¡Bang! Bang! Estás liquidado", 1989; "La mosca y la sopa", 1991; "En directo", 1992; "Lobo suelto, cordero atado", 1993; "Luzbelito", 1996; "Ultimo bondi a Finisterre", 1998; "Momo Sampler", 2000); and was able to perform in small theatres as Cemento, up to massives stadiums like Racing, Huracan or River Plate.

Sergio was an integral part of this band until it break up in 2002. 

 

Estrellados

In late 2002, Dawi recorded his first solo album, “Estrellados” which was reléase in November 2004 by the independent label "La Cornamusa". He promoted the album by performing in Uruguay and Argentina.

In 2008, after five years of live presentations, he recorded ¨Quijotes al ajillo¨album”, with his band Dawi y los Estrellados. Musicians as Barbara Togander and Indio Solari took part in the album as guests. This record had a wide repercussion on the media and the public.

 

VideoSaxMachine

Since 2007 to these days, in his show VideoSaxMachine, Dawi experiment with digital technology (loops and samplers) applied to the sax, by Improvising live music for short films. Merging himself in the images projected, he turns into one more character in the stories these images portray.

VideoSaxMachine has being showed in Uruguay (Teatro Solis, Montevideo and Arts Festival of Loberías, Cabo Polonio), Ecuador (XI Biennial of Cuenca, Houses of Culture of Quito and Cuenca, Theatre Arts Center and Hilton Hotel in Guayaquil) and Argentina (Tecnópolis, National House of the Bicentenary, Niceto Club, Cultural Center of the Cooperation, among others), and continues touring different cities.

 

PARTICIPATION AS GUEST IN RECORDING AND SHOWS OF: 

Vapors of Morphine, Ramiro Musoto, Albert Pla, La vela puerca, La triple Nelson, No te va gustar, La bomba de tiempo, Andrea Prodan, Taller de música de la Unidad 48 del penal de San Martín, El Indio y los fundamentalistas, esculturas sonoras de León Ferrari en Tecnópolis, María Teresa Corral, Fernando Kabusaki, Bárbara Togander, among others.

SEMILLA Bucciarelli

Semilla Bucciarelli is an Argentinian musician an plastic artist. 

Both the music and painting are developed in parallel in his life.

 

 

Since 1980 Semilla Bucciarelli started working with music (Ricardo Soulé / Patricio Rey y los Redonditos de Ricota). This gives him time to paint and work different techniques: acrylic, oil painting, airbrush, ink, sculptures, and a unique technique that he called "Acolchado".

Around 1990 Bucciarelli paint in different supports: wood, fabric, newsprint, skin (tattoos), etc. 

At the same time he also experiments with computer. He use a digital tablet where he draw in real time, driving the process on a screen. In exhibitions, through that system, images are projected on various musicians, who play improvising on a par with the drawing. 

In 2000, is more concerned with its plastic part, though still recording music for a DVD edition multimedia where linking music with the plastic. He makes his first retrospective showing 20 years of work (130 works). The exhibition visited several provinces: Cordoba, Mendoza, Tucumán, Jujuy and Buenos Aires.
